McKesson Donates EHR System To Aid Homeless Patients

McKesson has donated an electronic health record system to Father Joe's Villages, a San Diego-based not-for-profit that provides services to the homeless, in an effort to boost documentation and promote health screenings, Healthcare IT News reports.

McKesson's Practice Partners Patient Records software will enable Father Joe's volunteer providers to document visits, place orders and write prescriptions. The EHR system also will allow medical staff to develop benchmarking reports for prenatal and psychiatric care, as well as diabetic and asthmatic disease management.

Margaret McCahill -- the medical director of St. Vincent de Paul Village Family Health Center, which is part of Father Joe's -- said the software will enable the staff to better "document, manage and treat chronic illness and other conditions that would normally land our patients in emergency" departments (Merrill, Healthcare IT News, 5/8).
