EDS was awarded a $100.8 million, six-year contract to design, develop and install a Medicaid IT system for Ohio, Washington Technology reports.
The EDS Ohio interChange Medicaid system will provide more flexibility, as well as faster and more reliable claims processing for health care providers, according to EDS. The system will allow providers to submit claims and receive processing and approval confirmation electronically. In addition, the system will provide Ohio with information about health care trends and the medical needs of the state's Medicaid population (Beizer, Washington Technology, 8/6).
EDS has taken steps to ensure that the new Web-based system is protected under the same security measure the state has adopted since a June theft that compromised the data security of more than 800,000 Ohio residents and vendors, Cristal Thomas, Ohio's Medicaid director, said.
The new system will serve 43,000 Medicaid providers and 1.7 million Medicaid beneficiaries, the Business Courier of Cincinnati reports.
EDS serves as a fiscal agent or IT provider for Medicaid systems in 21 states (Burns, Business Courier of Cincinnati, 8/6).
