Large employers said they want better health care cost and quality data, and IT tools that can provide more information on their consumer-driven health plans, according to a RAND and Watson Wyatt Worldwide study, Health Data Management reports.
The study, called "The CDHP Implementation Experience with Large Employers," interviewed human resource executives at 42 large employers that offer CDHPs.
In response to what kind of IT tools the organizations offer to communicate with their employees, 65% of respondents said Web-based out-of-pocket calculators are good or excellent, while 58% had similar ratings for Web sites used in their CDHP programs.
Just 5% of respondents said they were receiving good or excellent provider cost data from their managed care organization or other vendors. In addition, 10% said quality of care data from these organizations is good, Health Data Management reports.
Employee communication was rated by 90% of respondents as the greatest challenge to adopting CDHPs, according to the survey.
The survey was jointly funded by the California HealthCare Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (Health Data Management, 8/9).
