Survey: RFID Use To Double Despite Lack of Adoption Plans

The number of health care organizations using radio frequency identification systems to track assets will more than double once the systems currently being adopted go online, according to a new survey of 119 CIOs who are members of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives, Modern Healthcare reports.

However, 76% of respondents said that their organizations do not have RFID and do not have plans to adopt the technology, according to the survey.

The survey, which was conducted in May and released on Friday, found that 4% of respondents said their organizations use RFID systems and that 4.5% said their organizations were in the process of adopting RFID systems. The survey also found that 16.5% of respondents reported that their organizations were in the process of selecting a system (Conn, Modern Healthcare, 7/30).
