Pennsylvania Group Unveils Statewide EHR Plan

The Pennsylvania eHealth Initiative after two years of work has released a report detailing how electronic health records can be created and shared throughout the state, the Harrisburg Patriot-News reports.

The online report, called "Connecting Pennsylvanians for Better Health: Recommendations from the Pennsylvania eHealth Initiative," recommends ways to ensure EHRs remain private, educate the public about the importance sharing EHRs among providers and pay for the equipment and network.

The goal of the initiative, which was launched in 2005, is to create by 2015 a network for sharing EHRs.

The initiative involves:

  • The Hospital & Health System Association of Pennsylvania;
  • The Pennsylvania Medical Society; and
  • Quality Insights of Pennsylvania, which works to ensure quality among Medicare providers (Wenner, Harrisburg Patriot-News, 5/3).
