Five of Florida's largest health plans are collaborating to help physicians transition to electronic prescriptions to reduce transcription errors, cut pharmacists' costs, and prevent adverse prescription drug interactions and allergic reactions, the Tampa Tribune reports.
The collaborative, called e-Prescribe Florida, involves:
- Av-Med, a statewide not-for-profit;
- Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Florida;
- Cigna;
- Humana; and
- UnitedHealthcare.
Aetna was invited to join the collaborative but has not yet participated, the
Tribune reports. Medical professionals, hospital groups, vendors and pharmacists in the next few months will be invited to join the collaborative, according to group leaders.
Leaders of the collaborative at an organizational meeting on Thursday asked a Florida Medical Association representative to help them identify incentives that will encourage physicians to transition to e-prescribing (Gentry,
Tampa Tribune, 2/2).
