CDC Re-launches Spanish Web Site To Increase Functionality

CDC this month re-launched its Spanish-language Web site to add new features that make it more usable and allow health information of special interest to Hispanic communities to be disseminated more easily, Government Technology reports.

"About half of the 16 million Hispanics online in the United States have expressed preference for Spanish-language Web sites and we are pleased to offer this improved tool," CDC Director Julie Gerberding said.

CDC en Español includes health promotion and disease prevention topics, such as:

  • Asthma;
  • Cancer;
  • Children's health;
  • Diabetes;
  • HIV/AIDS;
  • Immunizations; and
  • Occupational hazards.

The site is modeled after the English-language site that was launched in April. CDC en Español also includes a more powerful search engine, fast access to the 20 most-requested information topics, and other features to help patients and consumers locate health and science information more efficiently (Government Technology, 10/22).
