Michigan Hospital Invests in Health IT

Foote Hospital in Jackson, Mich., spends as much as $23 million annually on IT to increase efficiency and improve patient safety, the Jackson Citizen Patriot reports.

A recent Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society study ranked the hospital's clinical information system in the 99th percentile of 3,500 facilities.

A robot in the hospital's pharmacy has filled one million doses of medication and has not made a mistake in three and a half years, the Citizen Patriot reports. The hospital electronically links 27 affiliated sites including the hospital, Physicians Health Plan, physician offices, acute care clinic and community home health.

In addition, the hospital has partnered with the Jackson Physicians Alliance to build an electronic health record system, which physicians can use for $1,000 a month (Demas, Jackson Citizen Patriot, 1/12).
