The Health Information Exchange of New York on Thursday selected First Consulting Group's FirstGateways platform as the basis for an Albany, N.Y.-area regional health information organization, the Albany Business Review reports.
The proposed RHIO would link area hospitals, physician groups and insurers, allowing them to share electronic health records. The goal of the RHIO is to minimize errors, prevent duplicative tests and procedures, and improve efficiency.
In June, HIXNY received a $1.7 million grant under the Health Care Efficiency and Affordability Law for New Yorkers, and the group then shifted its focus to the formation of a RHIO, the Business Review reports.
Chris Baldwin, chair of the HIXNY board of directors, said they chose FirstGateways because the platform is based on developing national standards and because it offers clinical interoperability and electronic prescription capabilities (Albany Business Review, 9/8).
