The Department of Veterans Affairs has contracted with ID Analytics to conduct data breach analysis to determine whether information stored on computer equipment stolen in May from the home of a VA employee and later recovered was compromised, Government Computer News reports.
ID Analytics will conduct the analysis across multiple industries to identify any patterns of misuse and to determine whether there is any suspicious activity related to the theft. ID Analytics will provide the VA with an initial analysis and then continue to provide assessments on a quarterly basis, said VA Secretary James Nicholson.
The FBI has said it is "highly confident" that the data on the recovered computer equipment were not accessed or compromised, Government Computer News reports. Montgomery, Md., police last week arrested two men for the theft (Mosquera, Government Computer News, 8/9).
