Pennsylvania Representative Says EHRs Could Reduce Health Costs

Rep. Tim Murphy (R-Pa.) in a report released on Tuesday said Congress and the private sector could reduce the country's health care costs by $300 billion if they worked together on initiatives such as transitioning to electronic health records, encouraging preventive care and reducing hospital infections, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Murphy's report outlines 10 areas to lower health costs.
He has not introduced legislation on the topics addressed in the report, but an aide said the document aims to spark discussion, the Post-Gazette reports (Reston, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 4/19). The report is available online.
