Television-Based Health Education Tools Help Hospital Patients Learn About Their Condition

New video education tools are helping hospital patients learn more about their medical conditions and other health issues.

TeleHealth Services has developed a telephone-guided system for hospital rooms and a Web-based video kiosk for pre-operation and discharge areas.

Officials say the company also is working on a home-based video education system.

In an iHealthBeat Special Report by Pat McConahay, experts discussed various applications for television-based health education services.

The Special Report includes comments from:

  • Matt Barker, director of marketing for TeleHealth Services;
  • Richard Bootes, TeleHealth Services' vice president for development; and
  • Susie Sonnier, patient education coordinator at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center.

Experts say video health tools can empower patients and their families while simultaneously helping hospitals boost their education services (McConahay, iHealthBeat, 8/17).
