Smartphones Becoming Integral Tools for Health Care Providers, Medical Students

In an iHealthBeat Special Report by Deirdre Kennedy, physicians and a software developer discuss new smartphone applications for doctors.

The Special Report includes comments from:

  • Paul Auwaerter, medical director for Johns Hopkins University Point of Care IT Center;
  • Russ Cucina, associate medical director of IT at University of California-San Francisco Medical Center; and
  • Evan Schoenberg, a software developer and computer programmer.

Physicians are adopting smart phone technology faster than other U.S. consumers.

According to Manhattan Research, 54% of U.S. doctors own a PDA or smartphone -- and more than half of them consider it to be an integral part of their practice (Kennedy, iHealthBeat, 2/6).
