Data Point Image

Physician consumption of online information sources for professional purposes is accelerating across the U.S., Europe and Asia, according to surveys from Manhattan Research.

Physicians in those markets visit online resources at multiple points throughout the day using both computers and mobile devices.

Eighty-nine percent of online U.S. physicians, 88% of online South Korean physicians, 87% of online Australian physicians and 81% of online European physicians report that the Internet is essential to their professional practice.

According to Manhattan Research, physicians use the online information to support clinical decisions, make recommendations to patients and stay up-to-date with the latest medical advances.

Results are based on a:

  • Q1 2009 survey of 1,900 practicing physicians in the U.S.;
  • Q4 2008 survey of 1,000 practicing physicians in Europe; and
  • Q4 2008 survey of 1,000 practicing physicians in Asia-Pacific.
