Report on Health Care Reform Endorses Widespread IT Use

A new report by 28 stakeholder groups calls for widespread use of IT to support their national priorities to overhaul the health care industry but is light on specifics, Health Data Management reports.

The report, titled "Aligning Our Efforts to Transform America's Healthcare: National Priorities & Goals," identifies six national priorities:

  • Improving care coordination;
  • Engaging patients and families in decisions-making;
  • Improving population health;
  • Improving safety and reliability;
  • Guaranteeing appropriate and compassionate end-of-life care; and
  • Eliminating inappropriate or excessive care.

The report states that "aggressively moving toward more electronic data sources will allow measures to be more easily collected as part of the care process."

Participating groups worked under the National Quality Forum, an organization that is working to develop a national strategy for health care quality measurement and reporting (Health Data Management, 11/18).

The report is available online (.pdf).
