Canada's biggest online pharmacy to expand

Manitoba's MediPlan Pharmacy, the largest Web pharmacy in Canada, announced pans to build a new plant and create up to 300 new jobs during the next three years. The expansion comes during a showdown between Canadian pharmacies and pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline, although MediPlan is confident the ongoing dispute will not affect its future sales, the Winnipeg Free Press reports.

The new plant will open in June, and will immediately employ 75 to 100 new workers. Company officials dismissed any threat from Glaxo's recent decision to stop supplying Canadian pharmacies that sell its drugs to U.S. customers.

"We have found alternate sources for obtaining the product," said Chantelle Rzepka, Mediplan's operations director (Redekop, 1/31).
