CMS posts HIPAA complaint form online

CMS this week posted its online complaint submission form, which allows users to submit complaints about health care organizations (HCOs) that don't comply with HIPAA electronic transactions and code sets standards. If a complaint is filed, the HCO will have to demonstrate their compliance with the rule or submit a plan indicating how they will remedy the situation, HIPAAdvisory.com reports.

Users also can submit paper complaint forms to CMS that can be downloaded from the site. The complaint form is not intended for complaints about health information privacy; HHS' Office of Civil Rights will enforce the HIPAA privacy rule (12/9).
